Back To School = Mom Half Year Mini Resolution {Giveaway!}

2014 August 11

I’m not gonna lie.

When I look back on my goals for this year and try to measure my results past the half-way mark…. Well… I’m not doing great. Some of my goals were about water, exercise, relationships with my sisters, spiritual and my work life…

If I think hard about it though, I’m not a complete failure. I mean…

Sisters Selfie

  • I ran 3 races so far this year. And I’m dreaming of running a half marathon before the end of 2014. Wish me luck and send ibuprofen?
  • My family traveled to Spain for a once in a lifetime vacation. #RogersInSpain
  • I had the most amazing chance to visit several of my sisters on a surprise flight to Utah. #SisterSelfies are the best huh? And the above shot is missing 2 sisters!
  • I have a new (HUGE) church calling—they asked me to teach early morning seminary to the Fort Mill high school students this year. WOW. I’ll tell you more about that after I recover from the shock. Did you hear the part about EARLY Morning.. yeah? YIKES. #MormonIssues
  • I will be working heavily with and I have a new freelance writing gig coming up that I’m super excited about. Plus I’ve worked hard these past months and have been invited to several media/press events both locally and for travel.
  • (Notice I didn’t mention anything about water…) Hold on while I go gag down a glass so I don’t sound like a complete hypocrite.

What I’m trying to say is…

Let’s re-adjust our attitudes mid-year. Maybe it’s time for a little restart, jump-start, DO-OVER, ya know? Summer vacation is ending and every year when my kids head back to school I find myself one part relieved and one part SUPER! MOTIVATED! It’s like a New Year’s celebration for moms in August!

In my world of online marketing the back to school time always has a huge influx of work. And since we’re all back to a normal semblance of a schedule I’ll be ready for structure in my personal and work life as well.

I’m thinking a mini New Year’s Resolution list?

MORE FOCUSED: Because I now have to get up earlier than the kids and I have to prepare lessons daily (every other week)… I am going to HAVE to be not just more organized with my time in all aspects. I’m going to have to be more FOCUSED in all respects.

MORE PRIORITIZED: There are only so many hours in my day, and I’m really terrible about saying yes to way too many things. I will not be able to do a whole lot more than the handful of things on my plate that I absolutely MUST do or absolutely WANT to do. All the inbetween ‘nice’ things have to take a back seat for a few months. They just do.

Vague and clear at the same time.
Put on blinders if I have to and get the tasks done.
Then learn how to say NO (In the nicest way possible).

I’ve been doing great on my resolution to give up soda and drink more water. But not so great on getting out of the house and walking more. As soon as the kids are in school, I’m going to start walking in the morning to rev up my energy. I’m SOOOOOO not a morning person.

Good luck with your early morning class! Glad it’s you and not me 😉

When my oldest goes back to school, it’s time for me to go back to the gym. I drive her to school then take my other 3 with me to the gym.

When school starts, I’ll start walking in the morning. Early morning, earlier than seminary because I need to get it done before people start stirring. Thankfully, I’ll have other ladies in the neighborhood to walk with so I can’t just cop out and sleep in. Then after almost everyone gets to school or work, I’ll teach my preschooler. I’ve not done this in a formal setting and it scares me, but we’re both looking forward to it. It will be a challenge to keep it going everyday (ok, most days) and keep it fun for both of us. He’s my last baby, so my resolution is to enjoy this last year with him and not let it slip away in routine (while at the same time keeping a routine) and monotony.

We homeschool, and this will be the first year that I’ve taught two grade levels at once. My resolution: to take my organizational skills to the MAX and try to stay on top of lesson planning, week by week. Also, I need to try and control my temper. Oops.

I’m going to try & get my exercise done in the morning.

I have so slacked on my goals. I have had so much going on in my life, a lot of them have just fallen off my radar. I’m working on it though… I’ve got to get it together! I should go drink a glass of water now…
