Best Fruit Smoothy Recipe EVER

I’ve been on a health kick lately.

I’m talking Beyond healthy.

More like drill sergeant screaming GET YOUR BUTT UP AND MOVING kind of kick. Every so often I go on a vegetarian binge. (Don’t ask, there’s no real reason, I just like changing things up and cleaning out the ‘internal combustion system’ ). And when you aren’t packing in the protein from meats, you gotta sneak it in elsewhere.

One way I do that is with extra grains in pretty much EVERYthing I make. From whole grain pasta to adding cooked bulgar wheat to the spaghetti sauce. I happily mix in grains (cooked or not) to cottage cheese and I love a handful of cooked mixed cereal in a lunchtime salad. If you don’t believe me… go see my Bestest Salad Ever.

Another way to increase the healthy protein is to use a lot of beans. In EVERYthing. Black Bean Soup. Lentil vegetarian burgers. Bean burritoes. 3 bean salads. I love beans. Don’t judge. (And pass the Bean-o).

Last week I made black bean brownies.. I’m serious!

And now on to the smoothy. Yup. I add a tablespoon of raw grains (or more if I’m feeling frisky…) to a smoothy! Pick your jaw up off the floor, there’s enough fruit and yummy flavor you won’t know it’s there… happily adding healthy protein and fiber to your life.

Best Smoothy Recipe EVER

  • 1 Cup yummy fruit juice.  (Mine is Minute Maid antioxidant mix)
  • 1 Banana (or two if they’re small-I love bananas!)
  • A few strawberries. Mine were gigantic so 3 worked fine.
  • 1 Tablespoon grains or cereal (I used Bob’s Red Mill Organic Whole Grain High Fiber Hot Cereal) say that 10x fast!
  • 1 Tablespoon Grapeseed Oil (or some other ‘healthy’ oil like sunflower or flax seed oils)
  • Handful ice cubes

Don’t worry, I swear you cannot taste the oil at all.

Blend it all up. Drink it all down. Ahhhh.

Course if you want just a little bit more strange than this.. I’ve been known to throw in half an avacado to this smoothy. Seem bizarre? It’s not. Think about it. The avacado basically has no flavor compared to the fruit, and it’s texture is the same as a banana. I used to mash up avacado and banana for my babies… try it, you might surprise yourself! (The smoothy not the baby food silly!)

And just because I feel like bragging….

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Disclosure. I bought all products shown. The end.

My girls love making smoothies. I’m not sure I could get them to go for adding the cereal or oil. 🙂

It’s always great finally figuring out your perfect smoothie! I’ve been working on it for a bit, and I HATE bananas, lol so this one is definitely not for me!
