Ety Kids Safe Listening Earbuds

My Youngest Has a Sound Problem…

{Pictured below in his new yellow Ety Kids5 Safe Listening Earphones— given to us to test out by}

Living with 2 older sisters is his main problem. But this sound problem isn’t so much with him as it is with them. They can’t stand the noise and sounds when he’s playing Minecraft or watching his Minecraft YouTube heroes or when he watches his favorite nerd-podcasts on his iPad or computer.

His solution is to use earphones and steer clear of the SISTER wrath.
Which I think is a bit unfair considering they don’t turn down their music/TV/Facetime if it bothers him? But that’s another story…ETY Kids etymotic safe listening earphones for kids boy ipod iphone goodncrazy

At home or in the car  he happily uses earphones when using his favorite electronic devices.

In the past we’ve purchased inexpensive earbuds which either break within weeks or worse… he has to turn up the volume in order to hear well enough.

I call this the “Umbrella Conundrum”.

When you’re in the middle of a rainstorm do you stop and buy a $5 umbrella and not stress if it breaks because you can just buy another $5 umbrella?

Do you buy a much nicer umbrella knowing it will last longer?

Replacing cheap earbuds gets expensive anyway and they never fit well in a kiddo’s ears. Which means they will have to be turned up louder to block the outside noise. These earphones are $39 and in my opinion totally worth the price.

There’s also the safety issue to consider with young kid’s lifelong hearing.

I own a pair of Etymotic Earphones and I can attest to the fact that they are durable and the sound quality is very high. I always travel with mine especially on airplanes to block out the engine noise even when I’m not listening to music.

What I wanted to know with the Ety Kids earphones is how well do they fit in my kid’s smaller ears?

1 ETY Kids etymotic safe listening earphones for kidsEty Kids5 Earphones are $39 on the website or on

  • For ages 4+ and anyone overly sensitive to loud sound
  • Engineered for safe sound output*
  • High-definition sound experience
  • Available in 3 colors: Black, Pink and Yellow
  • ACCU•Fit eartips ensure a good fit in small ears

The Ety Kids5 comes with 3 different eartips. A smaller tip and a medium sized tip, plus these little mushroom shaped soft memory foam tips. We tested out all three and by far the pointy silicone tips with flanges block the most amount of outside sound!

My son preferred the medium sized flanged tips. My 13 year old daughter found the smaller tips to fit the best for her.

And for fun I tested them as well and I was surprised to find that the memory foam tips were my favorite (I might have stolen them and am now using on my Etymotic earphones… shhhh). I have very small ears and regular earbuds always hurt my ears. I love that they come with 3 different options to find the best fit for your kid.

OR for yourself if like me your ears are small??

After a week of using the earbuds regularly I asked my son if he likes them. He responded emphatically, YES! I asked him what he most likes about them. He said, “they are super comfortable, in fact I forget they’re in my ears!”. I asked him what he didn’t like about them and he responded, “this is kind of dumb, but if I push them in too far they hurt”.

From my side of things I love that I don’t have to worry about the volume or stress about his hearing.

“Even at the maximum volume setting on portable players, kids can listen safely for up to four hours per day.” —Etymotic Website

I do have a ‘mom-problem’ though… the earphones block outside ambient sound so well he can’t hear me calling him! He’s learned to only put in one earbud so he can still hear mom when she needs him.

Disclosure: We were given a yellow and pink set of Ety Kids5 earphones to kid-test and share our opinion. Our thoughts and sibling rivalries are our own.

Those sound great! I haven’t bought earbuds in forever because they hurt my ears. These would be perfect for air travel with small children. I have no shame in keeping them occupied with electronic devices to keep everyone on the airplane sane. This way they won’t annoy our neighbors with the turning up and down of the volume.

We constantly fight the earbud battle at home. The cheap ones break, the expensive ones get lost.

These look great. Miss A would totally love to use these and I agree paying a little more for better quality is my preference. Love that they come in different colors.

I may need to invest in a pair of these for my daughter because she loves using earphones on the tablet. I’m constantly having to adjust her volume for fear that she’s going to burst an eardrum or something. Thanks for sharing.
