Door Dash Food Delivery App Answering the Oldest Question in a Busy Mom’s Weeknight…

What’s For Dinner Mom?

Spring months mean NOTHING is for dinner, because we’re never home in the evenings.

Track Practice. Games. Track Meets.
Little League baseball (Majors this year!).
Practices don’t start till 5:30 or 6PM.
Games get out as late as 9:30PM.
High School Track meets last hours and HOURS.
10Pm is about the average time my Freshman gets home from weeknight meets.

Door Dash Food Delivery App in Charlotte, NCWhen exactly am I supposed to cook dinner?
Maybe a crockpot 1-dish wonder? (I don’t even have time for that, working full time these days.) Maybe throw in a frozen pizza for the one hundredth time? Maybe a sad hotdog from the local gas station convenience store on our way home? Kill Me.

This is going to go on for 2 more months! I can NOT eat another pizza, people.

Door Dash to the Rescue

Week night dinner madness with chaotic family sport schedules is solved if you live in the Charlotte Area!

Door Dash is a simple mobile food delivery app. They are launching around the nation and it’s finally Charlotte’s turn. Simply download the app (both Android and IOS), sign in, locate a restaurant, order food, register your payment info and hit SEND.

For the month of March (2016) the delivery fee is only $1.

(Goes up to regular of $3.99 in April)

And right now you can use CODE: GOODNCRAZY2 for $5 off a $20+ order (in Charlotte only).
Pay attention as some restaurants will charge more per menu item in the app when using this service. And if you live within the Charlotte city limits there are 80+ restaurants to choose from! (I checked several zipcodes in South Charlotte and Ballantyne, all showed tons of restaurants.)

You pay a delivery fee for EACH order you make so if you choose a couple different restaurants you will pay separate delivery fees.

NOTE: Door Dash is not in Fort Mill…. YET. They tell me the whole area is expanding and Fort Mill is high on their list. (YAY!) Go to DoorDash.com and test your zipcode to see if there is delivery in your area?

Yesterday I tested the Door Dash food delivery app while at a blogger event in Uptown Charlotte. (Perfect if you work in uptown BTW!)

Door Dash Food Delivery App in Charlotte, NCSo far it looks to me like the wait time is around an hour for most joints. While you can’t choose a shorter time for delivery than it shows on the app, you can choose to delay and schedule later. I ordered my lunch meal before I left for the event around 10AM. The earliest delivery slot was Noon (since most restaurants don’t open till 11AM) that was perfect and my order showed up 20 minutes early. Which was fine as I had a wide window for my lunch.

But 20 minutes is a LOT early if you were expecting a noon delivery. Be prepared to be flexible on delivery times is my advice till they get all the kinks worked out.

I especially like that you can leave a short note with any special instructions. I ordered a salad and fried green tomatoes from Dish, Charlotte and the only option for dipping sauce with the appetizer was a horseradish dill sauce. I HATE all things dill (except pickles, but whatever) anyway, I asked them to please make sure the salad dressing came on the side and to add ranch instead of the dill dipping sauce.  — Everything was delivered exactly like I asked!

Like the ‘Uber’ of Food Delivery

Door Dash in Charlotte, NC Food Delivery appI received a text message when my order was first picked up at Dish, Charlotte telling me my driver was on the way. Then I received a phone call from my driver telling me the same thing, he let me know he checked my order & that everything was correct as well.

Later when he arrived my driver ‘Duane’ called to be let into the building (which I didn’t know was locked, so that was nice!). I asked him if I could take his picture and he proudly displayed his Door Dash T-shirt for me!

–If you get Duane as your driver say hi for me! —

Wait! I forgot about tipping!

It’s all in the app. WHICH I LOVE, I never have cash for that sort of thing. You have several options 15%, 20% and let it calculate the amount. So when the food is delivered just thank the driver and that’s it.

Wrapping Up My Thoughts about Door Dash

  • I love that there are fast food restaurants as well as gourmet 5 stars on the list to choose from. Chick-Fil-A craving? Good to go!
  • I love that you include the tip in the app.
  • I wish it had a bit easier way to choose a delivery time. 1 hour is a long time, so be prepared to order in advance.
  • I’ll let you know when the service comes to Fort Mill… till then if you work uptown this is a great option for you!
  • Overall thumbs up to the app and delivery. Once the service is up and running in more areas I’ll really cheer!

Disclosure: I was provided reimbursement for my Door Dash order. My opinions are my own.
