My Mother’s Tea Set

My Mother’s Tea Set…

Way back nearly 50 years ago… this is the Tea Set my mom received when she married. I think she got it piece by piece slowly. And a few years back I asked her if she would let me have it. She rarely took it out of the deep dark recesses of her above the fridge cupboards, and I had a pretty place to display it in my house.

The next time she visited, she had the whole set boxed up and delivered it to me. I think she was relieved to get it off her hands. It was taking up space in her cupboards she said. Here. Have it.

And I have to admit we haven’t used it much either. But it sure is pretty!

Lovely! I had a tea party a couple of years ago, and went to several antique shops, looking for tea cups and saucers.

    Beautiful!

I was so excited the day my grandmother’s Japanese tea set was handed down to me. It was given to her by a boyfriend who was stationed in Japan during WW2. He bought it for $20 and a carton of Lucky Strikes. I love it.

Use it, schmooze it — Who cares! It is a lovely lovely heirloom with a nice story that can now be passed on to your daughter’s – I love it! And I wouldn’t use it for everyday use anyway… mayeb create a few special memories with it? Like a tea party on the girl’s 16th birthdays (in addition to the other one, of course!)? Mother’s Day teas with her special girls? Tea with the big special talks between a mom and her girl? You know the jist…. Love love heirlooms – wish I had some. xo, Melissa

Isn’t passed down china the best? Even if it is not used. Happy WW!
