Anyone Else Hate Shopping For BlogHer?
It’s time to start packing for BlogHer.
Okay… I’m THINKING about thinking about packing.
And in case you didn’t know.
I’m a MORMON.
And this means a couple things when it comes to blogging conferences.
- I always have extra drink tickets at parties – (Sit by me, I share!)
- Cocktail Party Dresses make NO sense for me.
See—we crazy Mormons have a couple DON’Ts.
We don’t wear strapless ANYTHING. We don’t wear spaghetti straps. We don’t wear tank tops. And below the knee is pretty much required. Sometimes I get an ‘AT the Knee’ dress, please don’t tell on me.
Hello, have you shopped cocktail dresses? They pretty much seem to shout, HEY! Here I am! Ready to be picked up on the Las Vegas Strip. Well… gee? Guess what? I am also that OTHER M-word: MARRIED. Oh and most of the BlogHer parties are filled with other women. So yeah, I’m not interested in showing off lots of cleavage and nether parts… thankyouverymuch.
Enough boo-hoo for me.
Here’s the dress I found for San Diego!
Wait.
It’s a tank dress you say?
And that’s the third Mormon Fashion don’t – right? No problemo.
I found this White cardigan from The Loft.
I’m still stressing about shoes. But since I’m driving Road Trip style with Mary Heston (Oh my gosh if you haven’t met her PLEASE find me at BlogHer so I can introduce you!) that means I can pack ALL the shoes I want. Amen!
See you there! I’ll hold my drink tickets for ya!
Disclosure: If Eddie Bauer were to ever contact me and want to pay me to wear their stuff, I would be thrilled! I would say yes. But first I would ask them: WHAT is the deal with your ‘so called sales?’ Cuz the whole ‘Up to 70% off‘ posters in your stores are um.. well.. to put it nicely… LIES. I once asked to see the 70% off rack advertized, and they said, oh… that? There isn’t one. And no. The Loft did not pay me to write about the shoulder saving cardigan. But if they did I would so tell you all about it.

First – way to go for finding some cute stuff that also follows your beliefs!
Second – I applaud you for sticking to your guns and not letting all the hype get to you and make you go “well, it isn’t THAT bad….” You, my friend, have integrity. And I admire that.
I bought a gorgeous maxi dress the other day. It is LOVELY! And maxi? Totally modest. Love that part. But it is strapless. I bought it strapless because I am bringing my breastfeeding daughter with me to blogher and if I want to wear a gorgeous dress, it must have, um, access. Cardigan to the rescue! LOL
Yes, cardigans rock!

Maxi dresses are really long sun dresses.
All the rage lately.

I do know what you mean, they are often spaghetti straps.. so again.. cardigan a must! I saw one I liked last week but chickened out.
I too have been very, very frustrated with shopping in genera, because it is summertime, I dislike my upper arms, and there is nary a sleeve to be found. Not short. Not quarter-length. Not capped.
I couldn’t even find a cute sweater during this weekend’s shopping adventure to cover up. Grrr.
Then, I had a brilliant idea! I should open a store with nothing but dresses and shirts with SLEEVES!!!! If there can be a store with nothing by mime wear (White House, Black Market), then they can be a store for sleeves.
Who’s with me?!

Usually conferences are FREEZING so your cardigan will be a great fit.
I am so with you on the longer lengths. I am a tall girl so a dress that skims the knee on most people is usually much higher for me, and a short dress? Forget it-you can see everything.
I have one dress that is a bit shorter than I’d like but I figure I’ll just stand all night and no one will know better.

I AM SO not letting you Stand all night!
How about leggings under a too short dress? Too teeny bopper? I could steal a few pair from my 13yrold??

You did great, and wearing a cardigan is the perfect way to make that darling dress work!
I wasn’t even going to wear dresses this year, but I changed my mind…sigh. However, I’m only doing flip flops. On that I’m not caving!

The dress and cardigan look lovely, I hope to meet you at BlogHer, I’ll be the one that didn’t go shopping and hope that my closet reveals some secret stash of clothing next week when I pack, keeping my fingers crossed
I don’t like to go shopping, I just wish the clothes would magically appear in my closet that fit and look nice….that plan isn’t working out, so no laughing if you see me!

The dress is lovely – you’ll look great! And not sure if this will make you feel better or not, but I don’t know anyone our age who isn’t frustrated shopping these days… Your restrictions are specific so that is definitely harder, but shopping is only fun for tweens these days, I think! (amended: grandmas or tweens…)… Hope you have wonderful time at Blogher!

Oh girl? Tweens? I have a stinkin’ hard time finding shirts that aren’t for hookers, and ALL pants now are so low I want to scream. We have invested in tons of undershirts/tanks Srsly. OY. Don’t get me started on swimsuits!!
