New Mom-Van! Car Safety & State Farm Twitter Party #TMOM #TrunkJunk

2014 January 4

So… THIS happened last week!!

A light blue 2013 Town and Country. We went in to talk about used vans with 20-30K miles and this brand new Chrysler with (ahem) 20 miles followed us home instead. {Oops?}

Our little old grandma of a mini-van was on life support and we were giving regular electrical infusions in the form of repairing the windshield wiper motor (what??), replacing burnt out door lock fuses (again… huh??). We generally stressed out about breaking down on our next family road trip. What was going to break next? And would it be during an ice storm?

She had over 120K miles on her and while we loved our former van for over 5 years, we were ready to upgrade to a hipper, newer… okay I just wanted FREAKING BLUETOOTH in my daily vehicle!!

What do you carry around in your trunk for winter (and year round) safety? We always have jumper cables and several first aid kits plus a utility knife… but there are several items State Farm suggests I didn’t even think about? Including several icy weather tips. Check out their whole list of Winter Driving Survival tips.

Carry Emergency Supplies

In addition to the just-in-case items you should always have in your vehicle, such as jumper cables (and learn how to jump-start your car safely,) tire-changing tools, flashlight, and first aid kit, be sure to include these winter essentials:

  • Small folding shovel
  • Tow and tire chains
  • Basic tool kit
  • Bag of road salt or cat litter
  • Windshield wiper fluid
  • Antifreeze
  • Warning flares
